Born on his birthday, sometime during the last century, Mark Lynch's talent was recognised early in his teens by the Marist Brothers who suggested a career as far removed from them as possible.

For the next four years he was employed in 18 various jobs and unemployed in 20 others.

At the age of 20, he won the lottery, where first prize was being able to wear khakis and carry a gun for long periods of time. He went on to do his time in 'Nam (Nambucca Heads) before being discharged.

Many credit his spectacularly unsuccessful stint in the armed forces as a leading factor in the government of the day rescinding the National Service Act.

The next 19 years were spent as a Qantas flight attendant where his life resembled an exotic beer commercial on
a time share basis.

Cartooning during this time was possible due to the cutting edge technology known as the fax machine. Publications
that used his work during this time were predominately The Bulletin and The Australian newspaper, as well as a host of others that felt sorry for him.

In what was later diagnosed as a brain explosion, Lynch bought a restaurant in Paddington, Sydney. Something had to give.... customers were being served inky black and white drawings while the editorial department at The Australian was being faxed delicious crepe suzettes. The restaurant won out for the next nine years.

Having an unfulfilled hankering for song writing saw him team up with Keith Potger from The Seekers, a collaboration
which produced, "A Friend like you" recorded by Canada's John McDermott on one of his many successful albums and still performed at his concerts.

A lifetime ambition achieved, it was time to be silly again, so he got married! His second last sacrament and a career highlight.

Discovering one of the side effects of sex....children! He is now happily flanked by Jennifer, Patrick and Jack, all of whom show infinitely superior intelligence than their husband and father.

Lynch is the recipient of over 20 Australian and international cartooning awards, including twice winner of the National Cartoon of the year and a Stanley Award for best single gag artist of the year.
